Joy,

Romans 14:17For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Joy is an aspect of grace: all joy is grace, but not all grace is joy. The two Greek words for grace and joy are similar: grace is charis, joy is chara.

I will begin by scientifically placing joy and rejoice in the model. I say this placement is scientific because at this point, it is merely a hypothesis, a guess.

In the model joy is incoming grace, and rejoice is outgoing grace. Joy is the law written upon your heart. Rejoice is the righteousness of the law fulfilled in you.

Let us move on to the next step in the scientific method: the test. Here we look at where this word is used in the Bible and see if this hypothesis can be turned into a thesis.

John 15:11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy [chara] might remain in you, and [that] your joy [joy] might be full. 12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

That my joy might remain in you. What would prevent his joy from remaining in you? At what point would it depart? And what had Jesus spoken to you that could make a difference?

On the day of the Lord, if the law of grace has not been fulfilled, the grace will be revoked, lost. If we keep the New Commandment (This is my commandment), and fulfill the righteousness of the law, his joy will remain: it will not be lost.

Nehemiah 8:10Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Although this is from the Old Testament, the concept of joy being your strength was accurate even then. The grace you receive from the Lord via the Holy Spirit, is your strength. It is your superpower because it is fulfilled by the strength of the Spirit, not by the weakness of your flesh. It is easy to think of joy as an emotion, but happiness is not your strength. When you receive divine love from the Lord, you receive a commandment, a law that awaits fulfillment. Yet it is not you that needs to fulfill it, but the Holy Spirit that indwells you. That commandment is fulfilled with the strength of the Lord, a strength that is beyond your capabilities.

Philippians 2:2Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, [being] of one accord, of one mind.

Joy needs to be fulfilled. Just as a law must be fulfilled for grace to be retained on the day of the Lord, joy does as well.

Philippians 4:4Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

If joy is grace received, rejoice is grace delivered. Joy is inbound grace; rejoice is outbound grace. Make it a practice to rejoice always, in all things.

These are the verses that clearly support the hypothesis.
